I am always prepared to disagree with my husband about the weather. The first thing he does every spring is say that spring will be early. I usually respond by saying, “I hate to tell you, but I think your calculations are off this year.” And, every year, I am proven wrong. As soon as winter ends, it starts snowing and then freezing.

We can’t keep our cars or houses heated during this time of year because it doesn’t snow very much. My husband lives in California and says that spring will be early. This year he said that the equinox will be earlier than usual because there is more energy available to the Earth than usual because of the sun’s activity during the summer.

He was right; the equinox came on March 20 instead of March 21 as usual. The day after the equinox is said to be the darkest time of the year, also known as one of two points in a twenty-four hour period when a person’s shadow is shortest.
